CYQ Certificate in Assessing in the Active Leisure Sector, Level 3
The practical skills needed to plan and conduct a fair and reliable assessment
This course is intended for Fitness Instructors who have a broad knowledge and range of skills in the fitness industry and who wish to develop their careers as Assessors. It will provide you with the skills required to conduct an assessment against the national standards of vocationally related qualifications (VRQs) in the Active Leisure Sector.

TARGET CANDIDATES
This course is designed for:
- Fitness Instructors who wish to pursue a career as an assessor within the Fitness Industry and Active Leisure Sector
- Gym/studio programme co-ordinators
- Those who are already working in an assessment capacity but who do not hold any formal qualifications
PREREQUISITES
Candidates must be aged 18 or over and must:
- Hold a nationally recognised qualification in the particular subject area that they wish to assess, e.g.
- Level 2 or Level 3 Certificate in Gym or Exercise to Music Instruction or equivalent
- Note: candidates should provide additional evidence of CPD (continued professional development) and work experience
- Have a minimum of three years industry experience
COURSE DESCRIPTION
The Online course covers the theoretical elements of the following subjects:
- National Occupational Standards
- VRQ and NVQ Assessments
- Collecting evidence and assessing competence
- Making an accurate judgement
- Providing feedback and support
- Contributing to the internal quality assurance process
The course includes One Training Day and one Practical Assessment Day held at the YMCA in Cambridge, the dates to be arranged through the Cambridge Office.
Note: Assessment can take place in the candidate's workplace. However this will incur additional fees and travel costs. Please refer to the Cambridge Office for a quotation.
ASSESSMENT PROCEDURE
The qualification is comprised of three Units. Candidates will be required to:
Unit 1: Plan and prepare for assessment
- Complete written Assessment Plans
Unit 2: Carry out an assessment and make an assessment decision
- Carry out an Assessment of a practical examination
- Note: this will take place at the YMCA in Cambridge
- Complete written self-evaluation of performance in the role of Assessor
Unit 3: Quality assurance procedures
- Complete a Quality Assurance Worksheet
Final assessment is made on submission of portfolio evidence.
