The Better Together Volunteer Project recruits, assesses and trains volunteers for seventeen different projects in the Peterborough area.
These projects are run by the Youth Offending Service, YMCA and other partner organisations. They all work with vulnerable young people up to the age of 17. There are various types of activities that volunteers engage in, ranging from sporting, drama and art activities in a group setting to individual mentoring and support. On some projects volunteers are also encouraged to visit the young person in prison to establish a working relationship prior to the young person leaving custody.
All the volunteers play an important role within these projects. The young people they work with are extremely vulnerable with complex needs and the majority having entrenched offending behaviour or are at risk of entering the criminal justice system. They often have chaotic lifestyles with little or no support. Volunteers provide an invaluable service to these young people spending time listening to them and helping them to grow to their full potential. The volunteers make a huge difference to the lives of these young people and the wider community.
We are looking for people who have good communication skills and who are reliable. We offer you the opportunity to make a real difference in the life of a young person and at the same time enhance your own life experience and skills. We provide excellent training, ongoing support and all your out of pocket expenses.
